Objectives

Citizenship, Economics and Society 

Knowledge and Understanding

  • To discuss topics based on accurate information and facts so as to develop a holistic and objective understanding of the topics;
  • To understand, accept and appreciate oneself and others, and live a healthy, positive and meaningful life;
  • To understand the roles and responsibilities of individuals in society and our country, including respecting the rule of law, obeying the law and fulfilling civic responsibilities;
  • To acquire correct personal financial management knowledge;
  • To understand basic principles involved in the government’s management of public resources and public finance policies;
  • To understand the features and general situation of the national and local economies;
  • To understand that both the Constitution of the People's Republic of China and the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China jointly form the constitutional basis of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR); as well as to understand the basic features of the political structure of the HKSAR as stipulated by the Basic Law;
  • To understand the basic features of our country’s political structure;
  • To understand the meaning of national security and the importance of the National Security Law to safeguarding national security;
  • To understand the connection and interdependent relationship between places around the world and understand that countries worldwide must cooperate to deal with global issues;

 

Skills

  • Further develop various life skills on the basis of learning at the primary level;
  • To reflect on personal behaviours, uphold and practise positive values and strengthen their self-improvement skills;
  • To develop skills to maintain healthy interpersonal relationships;
  • To develop skills to manage and interpret data, statistics and information related to economic performance indicators and economic trends;
  • To develop the ability to make informed analysis and reasoned judgments on contemporary mature topics which are related to the curriculum;
  • To develop and integratively apply various generic skills, including communication skills, mathematical skills, information technology skills, self-management skills, self-learning skills, collaboration skills, critical thinking skills, creativity and problem-solving skills.

 

Values and Attitudes

  • To attach importance to family values;
  • To understand, respect and appreciate different cultures, views and lifestyles, and support the development of a diversified and inclusive society;
  • To develop and nurture appropriate values and attitudes towards money and financial management;
  • To show concern for society, serve the community in a rational, law-abiding and responsible manner, and contribute to the building and development of society in the future;
  • To develop a sense of national identity, enhance the sense of belonging towards our country, show concern for the development of our country, and contribute to the building and development of our country in the future;
  • To possess a global perspective and show concern for the common good of humankind; and
  • To develop positive values and attitudes, and become informed and responsible citizens of society, our country and the world.

 

Civic Education 

• To recognise and discuss social issues in Hong Kong and China

• To enhance students' understanding of themselves, their school, their community and their society

• To actively involve in campus life and establish a good peer relationship

• To develop independent thinking capabilities and a self-reflection attitude.

 

Citizenship and Social Development (Form 4-6)

• To enhance understanding of society, the country, the human world, the physical environment and related knowledge;

• To develop multiple perspectives on contemporary mature topics in different contexts (e.g. cultural, social, economic, political  and  technological contexts);

• To become independent thinkers; be able to adapt to the ever-changing personal, social, national and global circumstances and  construct knowledge; understand the complexities of the topics, and the challenges and processes involved in decision-making for making law-abiding, rational and affective analysis, and learning how to handle conflicting values;

• To inherit Chinese culture and heritage in a pluralistic society, deepen understanding and sense of identity of individuals with Chinese nationality and Chinese citizenship, and at the same time appreciate, respect and embrace diversity in cultures and views;

• To develop skills relevant to life-long learning and strengthen their ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills, including critical thinking skills, creativity, problem solving skills, communication skills, collaboration skills, data management skills, self-management skills, self-learning skills, and information technology skills;

• To develop positive values and attitudes towards life, so that they can become informed and responsible citizens of society, the country and the world.

Citizenship, Economics and Society & Civic Education

• This subject has no textbooks. Teaching materials and handouts are prepared by teachers to cater for student diversity. 

• Teaching and learning modes place emphasis on group assignments and discussions. Information technology is used to motivate students' learning interest.

• Students' social awareness is strengthened through participation in both internal and external activities.

 

Citizenship and Social Development 

 

• This subject aims to develop students' self-regulated learning and cross-subject thinking abilities. This encourages students to pursue knowledge through self-learning as well as to be open-minded towards new things.

Cultural Excursion in Kam Tin (Form 4)

To enhance students' understanding of Hong Kong's traditional culture, historical heritage and architectural styles, we organized a cultural excursion to Kam Tin in mid-April for Form 4 students. During the excursion, students visited various historical landmarks such as Chau Wong Yi Kung Study Hall, Bin Mo Bridge, Kam Tin Tree House, Tang Kwong Yu Ancestral Hall, and Lik Wing Tong Study Hall.
