3D RIPPLE TANK (Installed in MMLab)
WHAT¡¦S GOOD ABOUT A VIRTUAL 3D
RIPPLE TANK?
- The 3D representation of waves
makes it easier for the student to understand
wave concepts.
- It can be run on a PC, so that
students can use this tool in the school¡¦s
computer lab, or on their home PC.
- The real-time interaction
allows intuitive exploration and analysis of
different effects and experiments.
- The virtual ripple tank is
much more convenient to use than a real ripple
tank, which requires time and effort to set up
and run.

FEATURES OF
IVLAB¡¦S 3D RIPPLE TANK
- The ripple tank is represented
in 3D, and can be viewed from any direction and
magnification.
- Two types of dippers are
provided: Point dippers generate circular waves,
and plane dippers generate plane waves.
- Obstacles that reflect waves
include plane, convex and concave reflectors.
- Refraction obstacles include
ramps, circular, convex and concave objects
which can be submerged in the tank to refract
waves.
- A diffraction slit can be used
to create diffracted waves.
- Measuring tools, including a
ruler and a protractor, are provided for
measuring wavelengths, distances and angles.
- A cut plane and a wave
analyser can be used to generate a distance-time
view for wave motion and a displacement-time
graph for particle motion.
